Creating opportunities for your dog, cat or any of your pets to experience new things as often as possible, is one of the most valuable things you can do for them. it stimulates their brain, builds confidence, and enriches their lives. This is one of the fundamental lessons of socialisation for young dogs that I teach in my puppy classes.
Take your dog somewhere new as often as possible, somewhere they love to be perhaps? Walks in the forest for example, but choose a different route regularly. Repeating the same routine or same game every day can quickly become boring for both you and your dog. If your regular spot is somewhere like the beach (an open space which takes less time to explore), exercise a little creativity and make up a new game or teach them a new behaviour, something simple and fun, better still something useful that can help you both live together more easily, the possibilities are endless.
When exploring outside, give them the freedom to do all the things that they can’t do at home, like jumping in puddles, playing in the mud (bring some towls!) , or digging holes in the sand in the forest or at the beach! Be creative and make their day special, not only is it great for your relationship with them, but you will be rewarded in ways you will not expect. With everything that life throws at us in today’s world, our time is precious, so make your time with your pet worthwhile, it will put a smile on your face too! Countless research studies have shown time and time again that regular physical activity is not only great for our bodies and minds, but necessary, if we want to live longer healthier lives. Dogs are built to run, so i cant think of a better exercise partner whether your goal is a light stroll or a 10k run.
